driftwebs

This past Tuesday night, I heard Pam Longobardi speak at the Anchorage Museum.

Longobardi is an artist, educator and activist who paints, makes installations, lectures, picks up trash from beaches and does public art. Her current work is Driftwebs, an interdisciplinary project focusing on marine debris and plastics pollution.  Interesting and eye-opening.  (Did you know that the gyre of trash in the Pacific Ocean is at least as big as Texas but maybe as big as the lower 48??  Yikes.)

Leave it to your friendly neighborhood Philistine to be confused here. Is that a photo of an art installation on a beach? Litter as art? Seriously?

the first is just some nets and other debris she found on the beach and the next is what she did with it. what do you think? you should check out her paintings and tell me if you like them.
