The frost on the lake is called surface hoar. It forms when the moisture in snow, or ice, is sapped out by even colder temperatures. This Wednesday, the high will be 11 and the low, 1.
I went cross country skiing on Wednesday! It was like slow-motion flying, gliding across sheets of crisp, cold white. The sun was out and there was a bear across the valley, lumbering around in the snow, satiated from eating a moose that he'd (she'd?) had for breakfast. All that just a 15 minute drive from my house...
That's Anchorage: cappuccino or citrus green tea from the Art Museum, then a jaunt out to the mountain for skiing and true wilderness wildlife-viewing, back into town for live music and Thai food, then home to plug in the engine block heater and read The Press (the Anchorage weekly alternative paper) in warm cozy bed!
